What is an API?
To break it down simply, it's a recipe that you can use. As described by MuleSoft, API is the acronym for application programming interface –– a software intermediary that allows two applications to talk to each other.
What is the etee Python API?
The etee Python API is the official API package to interact with your eteeController. They act as the middle-layer that connects your etee devices and your Python-based application.
If you are a VR-user like me who doesn’t intend to create custom applications, chances are you probably won’t need this. However, if you are a developer you know exactly what to use this for and how much effort our engineers put into it.
OK, now we know what the etee Python API is. How does it work?
The aim of releasing this API is to allow developers to easily and wirelessly access a wide range of device sensor data, as well as sending commands or receiving status updates from the eteeController.
Some features include:
- Connecting or disconnecting devices
- Starting or stopping the streaming of sensor data
- Retrieving tactile, IMU and device state data
This API is currently compatible with:
- Platform: Windows (32-bit and 64-bit)
- Language: Python
So what does this package actually contain ?
One of our biggest goals at etee is to develop user and developer-friendly products and services. Similarly, here we have developed a variety of resources to ensure an effortless implementation of your eteeController using the etee Python API.
These include:
Source code, getting started guides, package installation files and example scripts.
- Developer Documentation Page (link here):
Detailed description of the API functionalities, function references, data packet structure and quickstart guides for custom implementations.
Further Resources
Aside from the API resources, you can also visit our Github profile, eteeXR, where we have started releasing useful assets, such as the eteeController handle 3D models.
All of this is free for any developer that wishes to use our API, this free API is the basic version out of the 3 different versions we provide, so if you think you need a more detailed or customised API, reach out to us and we would be more than happy to help.
